National Standards for Grade Levels 7-10
Learn about cellular structures and organelles and correlate cell structure with function. Students view living and dead cells, distinguish Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells, differentiate plant cells from animal cells, and observe live microorganisms from pond water. Students gain experience making wet mounts and staining cells using iodine and methylene blue. Introduces cell theory, mitosis and cytokinesis. Allow 90 - 120 minutes lab time. Designed for 24 students working in groups of four. Requires microscopes, goggles, gloves, pond water, potato, and onion.
