Students gain experience taking scientific measurements using metric units. Nine real-world activities lead students through the concepts of measuring with accuracy; learning metric place values; estimating metric lengths, distances, areas, masses, and volumes; measuring volumes; measuring in square and cubic dimensions; identifying metric measures in our world; differentiation of mass vs weight; measuring by displacement; and measuring temperature in both Celsius and Fahrenheit. Includes extension activity suggestions, student exercises, and assessment activities for testing understanding. Allow 6 -10 lab hours, plus ongoing practice. Designed for 24 students working in pairs.
