National Standards for Grade Levels 2-6
 
Science Detective was designed to teach younger students problem solving skills. Students will:
state problems as scientific questions
approach problems using the scientific process
develop observation and organization skills
conduct two simple experiments
practice recording experimental data in an organized manner
present data from an experiment in the form of a graph
practice interpreting data and observations
learn to draw a sound conclusion
learn to reformulate a hypothesis
 
Includes instructor’s manual, transparencies, student data sheets, card game, "what’s different" activity, bread mold experiment, plant growth experiment, extension activities, and materials for a class of 24 students. Allow three hours of lab time with additional observation time for two weeks.
